NECJOGHA's Approach
At NECJOGHA, we know that reliable information is vital in tackling the climate crisis. We bridge the gap between the media, complex climate science, and the public, empowering communities across the Greater Horn of Africa to understand and address the challenges they face. We work with national meteorological and hydrological services in the region to build links between the media and climate products. We make climate information services a lifeline for vulnerable communities. Here’s how we make a difference:
Media and Science Partnerships:
We connect journalists with leading scientific institutions like ICPAC, the IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre. This gives media professionals direct access to reliable climate data, expert analysis, and a deeper understanding of the science behind climate change.
Training and Capacity Building:
We equip journalists and communicators with the skills and knowledge to report effectively on climate change. Our training programs cover everything from understanding climate data to communicating complex information in a clear and accessible way.
Reaching Vulnerable Communities:
We work to ensure that vital climate information reaches those who need it most. This includes translating scientific findings into local languages and using diverse media channels – radio, television, print, and online platforms – to share information widely.
Amplifying Local Voices:
The Greater Horn of Africa is a region facing a complex web of challenges – droughts, floods, food insecurity, and displacement. NECJOGHA is committed to empowering communities with the information and tools they need to build resilience and navigate a changing climate.
- We prioritize the stories and experiences of communities at the forefront of the climate crisis. By sharing their voices, we raise awareness and advocate for action.
